Making a difference for our oceans
Over 70% of our planet is covered in oceans, providing us with food, helping to regulate our climate and producing most of the oxygen we breathe. Sadly, these vital ecosystems are under threat from plastic pollution.
• 80% of ocean pollution is plastic waste1
• 6 - 11 million tonnes of plastic end up in reivers, lakes, seas and oceans each year 2
• 690 marine wildlife species are impacted by plastic pollution 3
How Davines is tackling ocean plastics
Our in house research and development department works constantly to minimize the impact of Davines product packaging. Our packaging is designed to be circular: we favour recycled and recyclable materials. In addition, we strive to constantly balance the impact we can't avoid: since 2021 we have partnered with Plastic Bank and since 2022 for every plastic packaged product we sell, we remove the same amount of plastic from coastal areas of the Philippines, Indonesia and Brasil, making our products Plastic Net-Zero
Working together to protect our waters
Get involved in your local Davines campaign to reduce the impact of ocean plastic. As well as offering our gift with purpose, the Davines community in Malaysia is working together with Davines on 8th of June, we are going down to Pantai Remis, Kuala Selangor to do a beach clean up! And also a Recycled Plastic Workshop where you can learn how to sort, shred, melt, and mold plastic into new items, such as Keychain. Volunteer and join us as a participant! Every small little efforts count and let's all do our part for our community.

Did you know that over 70% of our planet is covered in water?
They provide us with food and oxygen and help to regulate our climate. But our vital marine environments are under threat from pollution At Davines, we aer working hard to design packaging that is circular: lightweight, recycled or bio-based, recyclable and with minimized negative impact. Also, we remove ocean-bound plastics from coastal areas. Now we're asking you to join us!

How Davines is tackling ocean plastic pollution
1. ECO-DESIGN
To minimise packaging impact and facilitate recycling
Our in-house packaging R&D department uses eco-design principles to minimize the impact of our packaging and facilitate circularity through recycling.

To collect ocean-bound plastic from coastal areas
Since 2022, we've partnered with Plastic Bank so that for every plastic packaged product we sell, we remove the same amount of plastic from coastal areas.

We're working to reduce plastic impact also outside our value chain. Starting in 2023, we've collaborated with the social enterprise Plastic Bank: the first year, thanks to this partnership, we collected and removed 100 tons of ocean-bound plastic, and in the following years, we went even further.
Since 2022, all Davines Group products are Plastic Net-Zero: for every plastic packaged product we sell, an equivalent amount of ocean bound plastic is collected and removed from coastal areas in Indonesia, the Philippines and Brazil.
We are pleased to announce that our partnership will continue through 2024, and that we will be expanding our plastic collection efforts to the coastal areas of Thailand.

FAQs
If plastic is a problem, why still use plastic?
Due to the complexity of our planet's challenges, including climate change. Plastic allows for less material usage and less packaging weight, leading to significantly lower CO2eq emissions than other materials. Especially when plastic is recycled or bio-based.
What does eco-design mean?
The term eco-design refers to a set of principles applied to packaging design and development, which reduces its environmental impact during all the life-cycle phases, from cradle to grave. Eco-design considers many aspects such as carbon emission, use resources, pollution and more.
What does Plastic Net-Zero mean?
Plastic Net-Zero means that for every plastic packaged product Davines sells, an equivalent amount of ocean-bound plastic is collected and removed from coastal areas.
Who is Plastic Bank?
Plastic Bank is a Canadian for-profit social enterprise that builds recycling ecosystems to fight both plastic pollution in oceans and high poverty levels in developing countries.
