Oceans are a global force of nature that forms the foundation of the blue planet on which we live.

Oceans cover 71% of our planet’s surface and make up 95% of all the space available to life. The oceans plays an important role in regulating the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere.

Interesting fact about Oceans and Carbon

Oceans are the world’s largest store of carbon, an estimated 83% of the global carbon cycle is circulated through marine waters.

The carbon dioxide (CO2) taken up by the oceans does not affect the Earth’s heat balance, so the AIR-SEA exchange of CO2 is an essential piece of the solution to global change.

Coastal and marine ecosystems are the most productive on Earth to provide integral service – sequestering and storing “blue” carbon from the atmosphere and oceans.

Blue Carbon
is the carbon that stored naturally by the world’s ocean and coastal ecosystems and help mitigate the threat of climate change.

3 Stages of Blue Carbon

Capture

Storage

Sequestration

There are 3 types of coastal ecosystems – mangroves, seagrasses and salt marshes – store half the “blue” carbon buried beneath the ocean floor.

It’s important because the release of carbon into the atmosphere is major driver of climate change.

THE EMERGENCY

The global loss of coastal & marine ecosystems is occurring at an alarming rate. It causes the blue carbon sinks are lost on average, between 2–7% annually.

The continued degradation of these ecosystems decreases the ocean’s existing carbon stock and its capacity to mitigate climate change.

CRITICAL STORAGE
OCEAN +COASTAL HABITATS

is circulated through the ocean

coastal habitats cover less than 2% of the total ocean area

coastal habitats account for approximately half of the total carbon sequestered in the ocean sediments

What we can do?

Reduce CO2 emission

Support reforestation

Keep the ocean healthy

It’s a good start.
Let’s concern about the recent headlines about blue carbon ecosystems, we can’t afford to lose any more of these places.

We compensate

All Davines products have 100% CO2eq-offset packaging.

On top of that, there are products offsetting by the total CO2eq emission of its life cycle, like A Single Shampoo, Shampoo Bar, Heart of Glass, Pasta & Love.

Davines committed to achieving “net zero emissions” by 2030. We offset the quantity of CO2eq that cannot be zeroed through EthioTrees, a proprietary reforestation project.
